Poem on Reigelman’s MLK Experience by George Ella Lyon ’71

Milton Reigelman’s experience on the memorable day Martin Luther King Jr. spoke the famous words “I have a dream” has been captured in a poem written by acclaimed Kentucky poet and Centre College graduate George Ella Lyon ’71. The poem is part of a collection she wrote with colleague J. Patrick Lewis about the 1963 March on Washington.

Flameside Chats will allow viewers to discuss leadership with President John Roush

The Centre College alumni affairs office is planning a third installment of the popular Flameside Chats series, this time interviewing President John Roush on the subject of leadership at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Roush is considered an expert in the area of leadership, contributing regularly to professional journals. He also regularly teaches a class on leadership called Rainmaking.

The Economics of Excellence: Philanthropy in the Shaping of Centre College

After more than a century of determined effort, Centre College at the end of the Great Depression and on the eve of World War II was in an enviable position with a growing endowment, adequate campus facilities (albeit in two locations), and impressive library holdings. Unfortunately, the years immediately ahead would be among the most challenging in the College’s long history. The forward momentum of 1940 came to a screeching halt little more than a year later when the United States entered the war and Centre’s enrollment, like that of most colleges, collapsed.

As part of this fresh focus, Morgan McKenzie (pictured above, left) joined the Center for Career and Professional Development in September in the newly created position of employer relations specialist.

Distinguished Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees recognized at Homecoming 2014

This year’s Homecoming celebration at Centre College was as memorable as ever, marked by the Colonels’ win over Rhodes College to maintain their undefeated football season and the return of nearly 1,000 alumni to commemorate their alma mater. Another highlight of the weekend was Saturday morning’s alumni recognition ceremony, during which the College honored five distinguished alumni and inducted two athletes and two teams into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
